Book Review -Stitching Update in a bit

SO I have not spent my free time this week doing much stitching.  I have read two amazing books in a row, they were both relatively small books but both were so different from the things I read, and both have left me thinking WOW.

This post will be about those books – and then I will post a new one about where my stitching thoughts have been this week.

First Where are the Coca Puffs by Dr. Karen Winters.   This is a book about manic depressive illness, bipolar – and if you have ever experienced this – you must read this book.  One of my very best girlfriends daughter was diagnosed with this when she was in middle school.    You would think this may be a depressing read, but it wasn’t.  I am by no means a book reviewer, so I am not about to review with all the stuff about defining character and plots, etc.  But I do know, for anyone who loves someone, or knows someone who loves someone who has been diagnosed with this disease – read this book.

Now a book that was depressing Winters Bone by Daniel Woodrell.  A friend of mine saw this movie, the lead actress in this movie is the girl from the Hunger Games . Of course I hate to see the movie before I read the book, which meant I had to put this book on my next to read list.  WOW.  This was so depressing, but what a wake up call for me.  This is modern day in America – the land of opportunity.  It is a sad reminder of how in this amazingly awesome place I live, there still are areas where there is no opportunities.  After I put this book down, read the last page – I got on the internet to look for book club discussions, looking for anyone who had read the book and what they thought.  Just another WOW.  This was only 150 pages but it did not go fast for me.

So there you have it.  I am debating on my next read, I am not sure I want to pick up Game of Thrones #4 yet, or take a break for one more book – and I do want something still somewhat light and not a series.  When I read those series books, I get weird – you know Twilight, looking for my perfect Were Wolf, Harry Potter, what spell can I use to make my truck fly,  and with Game of Thrones – well you know my Knight in Shining Armor must be out there somewhere.

Advice: Every once in awhile, take some time and lose yourself in a great read – and audio books are great to listen to while you are stitching (but tend to be a bit more expensive).

Hunger Games - Finished

I am so very glad I read this book, after I saw the movie.  I am getting ready to start the 2nd book.  I hesitate to give this 5 stars, - because I really want more history - about the war, about the different districts - but I think this is the sign of a great book.  To leave me wanting to learn more, to continue the story, to read on, hoping my questions get answered.  So will be Nooking Book 2 today - and I think I am leaning towards the Game of Thrones, as so many people are always talking about this book, and I do believe I will enjoy.

Hunger Games

5 Stars.... It was so good, I thought, and I have not read the books, but now I will.  My granddaughter who is 13, said she thought it was better than Twilight - she has not read Hunger Games either, but after watching movie, she would like to - Anything that gets a kid to read, has to be 5 stars.  Loved Woody Harrelson - awesome, Lenny Kravitz - so hot

End of August 2025 Update 1

So I am struggling with this new post - what use to be so simple creating these update posts - I am not sure but its taking a few tries to ...
